Alan Philps trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia and he moved to London to study voice with Florence Norberg in 1976. At this time, he came across the Alexander Technique. He trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1983-85 and has worked on the course since then.

Alan continues to present voice workshops internationally. Each week Alan conducts voice work with a gathering of the whole school as well as teaching students individually and in small groups. Alan is regularly part of the CTC team on teacher refresher courses in London and International congress workshops. He was appointed assistant head of training in 2008.

He has a private practice at the Constructive Teaching Centre as well as Wedmore, Somerset.
